How did the historical time-period of Sophocles influence how he wrote Oedipus Rex ? Please help me !!?

The play reflects the theme that you cannot fight fate, which was a common belief at the time. Oedipus was a good man, and did not merit his misfortune, and actions taken to prevent the propechy only helped it come true (Oedipus being given away caused him to grow up thinking he was another's son, and him running away only brought him to his true father's kingdom.)
