Is this paragraph alright as far as punctuation ?

Long before there was any kind of democratic leadership many independent tribes, empires, and even colonies where completely ruled by one man. That man was to have held the title of king. His job was not only to go into war alongside his soldiers, or to protect his country. His job was to be an omniscient character among men. If his people were sick he was entrusted to find a solution. In the event that traitors existed among his people, he was to keep his people safe. All of these jobs were bestowed onto King Oedipus when he became the king of Thebes. But pride, power, and denial of reality blinded his every though. Hunger to stay in power, and fear of looking foolish among his people, led him to accuse the most trusted man in his kingdom of treason. Devastated at the fact that he was being accused of betraying everything he knew; Creon went on to ask questions. He wanted to redeem his name in the eyes of the king and the Choragus of Thebes.
