Is manipulation bad? Good?

I don't know, don't we manipulate always throughout life without even knowing it? I always wondered that with family members, relationships, friends, etc. Always wondered that maybe everyone manipulates others without even knowing it or it is a manipulation that is far less than the strong kind, but still has some power.
